Important Notice: NUST One is an unofficial, student-developed app and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or officially connected to the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), NUST LMS (Moodle), or QALAM in any way.
Welcome to NUST One! Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data. We believe in transparency and keeping things simple.
1. Information We Collect
From Google Sign-In:
- Email Address: Your NUST email (@*.nust.edu.pk domains) to verify you're a NUST student
- Full Name: To personalize your experience and display on your profile
Information You Provide:
- Timetable Data: Your class schedules, activities, and reminder preferences stored locally on your device
- LMS Credentials: Your NUST LMS (Moodle) login token stored securely in encrypted form on your device
- QALAM Credentials: Your QALAM portal credentials stored in encrypted form locally on your device
- User-Generated Content: Events you create, feedback you post, and comments you make
Automatically Collected:
- Device Information: Device ID for ad serving (via Google AdMob)
- Usage Data: App interactions, feature usage, and crash reports (via Firebase)
- Cookies: Session cookies for LMS integration to keep you logged in
2. How We Use Your Information
- Authentication: Verify you're a NUST student and maintain your session
- Core Features: Display your courses, timetable, events, and academic information
- Notifications: Send class reminders based on your timetable settings
- Communication: Show announcements and respond to your feedback
- Monetization: Display relevant ads via Google AdMob to support app development
- Improvement: Analyze app usage to fix bugs and add features you need
3. Data Storage & Security
Local Storage (On Your Device):
- QALAM credentials - encrypted in SharedPreferences
- LMS authentication tokens - encrypted storage
- Timetable and reminders - SQLite database on your device
- Cached course data - for offline viewing
Cloud Storage (Firebase):
- Your email, name, and user ID
- Events, feedback, and comments you post
- App preferences and settings
Security Measures: We use encryption for sensitive credentials, secure Firebase authentication, and follow industry-standard security practices. However, no system is 100% secure—please use strong passwords for your LMS and QALAM accounts.
4. Third-Party Services
NUST One integrates with several third-party services to function properly:
Firebase (by Google):
- Firebase Authentication - Manages your Google Sign-In
- Firebase Firestore - Stores events, feedback, and user data
- Firebase Remote Config - Controls app features and updates
- Firebase Privacy Policy
Google AdMob:
- Displays ads to support free app development
- Collects device ID and ad interaction data
- May use personalized ads based on your interests
- Google Privacy Policy
- You can opt out of personalized ads in your device settings
NUST LMS (Moodle) & QALAM:
- We connect to these services using your credentials to fetch your academic data
- Unofficial integration - NUST One is not endorsed by NUST
- Your credentials are encrypted and stored only on your device
- We don't share your login credentials with anyone
- These services have their own privacy policies governed by NUST
5. Data Retention & Deletion
- Events: Automatically deleted 24 hours after the event date
- Announcements: Auto-deleted based on duration
- Feedback Posts: When you delete your account, your feedback content is preserved but anonymized (shown as "Deleted User") to help the community
- Your Account: Use the "Delete Account" option in your profile to remove your account and personal data instantly
- Local Data: Timetable, LMS tokens, and QALAM credentials are automatically deleted when you uninstall the app
What Gets Deleted: Your authentication account, profile information, and personal identifiers.
What Gets Anonymized: Your feedback posts remain visible as "Deleted User" to preserve community value.
6. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access: View what data we have about you
- Correction: Update your information through your profile
- Deletion: Delete your account instantly using the "Delete Account" option in Profile → Account Settings
- Opt-Out: Disable personalized ads in your device settings
- Data Export: Request a copy of your data (email us)
7. Children's Privacy
NUST One is designed for university students (typically 18+). We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy occasionally. We'll notify you of significant changes through the app. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
9. International Users
NUST One is primarily designed for NUST students in Pakistan. Data is stored on Firebase servers (which may be outside Pakistan). By using the app, you consent to this data transfer.
